Who would you like to see in a kilt competition and paperback launch!

It’s my blog, so let’s have a pic of Euan McGregor in a kilt.

Join me tomorrow Tuesday 12th June for the online paperback launch of Housewife with a Half-Life. Stop by to find out who has won the signed paperback and to enter the other competitions for book and other domestic fun prizes. Thanks so much for your good wishes and support! If you’re on Facebook like A.B. Wells to find out about other comps, posts and giveaways and the real-life 3d launch in Dublin.

Housewife with a Half-Life is available on ebook  Amazon US and Amazon UK.

Who (or what) would you like to see in a kilt competition to win signed book prize.

Fairly Dave is the very loveable spaceman character in Housewife with a Half-Life. Here is when Susan Strong first sees him:

“He was wearing a random outfit that consisted of a biker jacket, a t-shirt with the logo “42 – not as bad as you think” and a kilt. His legs, of which there were definitely just two, were truncated by a pair of purple iridescent Doc Martens. His hair was, well, the stuff of nightmares. I don’t want to name names, but let’s just say that the lead singer of Status Quo would have been the ideal poster boy for this gentleman. There was a ponytail, a receding hair line and a shiny pate that Susan had a compulsion to draw a question mark on.”

Later we go on to learn that he is extremely tall and that he has luminescent emotions. Parts of his body (ahem!) light up in different colours when he feels, angry, scared, loving or guilty.

It seems that Men in kilts are very popular. When googling, I found this interesting and amusing site for window cleaners in kilts. I love their 100% clean guarantee! and their No Peeking! sign. (Giggling women alert).

There are many films with Men in Kilts (hopefully Housewife with a Half-Life will be too :-)). Braveheart and Four Weddings and a funeral are some of the most well known. For my part So I Married an Axemurderer with Mike Myers and A Life Less Ordinary (EUAN MCGREGOR!!!) are among my favourites.

Win a paperback by commenting here on your fav person in a kilt.

So, to be in with a chance of winning a signed paperback of Housewife with a Half-Life, just say in the comments below who you would like to see in a kilt (doesn’t necessarily have to be male) or who’s your favourite movie person in a kilt. Keep the comments funny and clean!

The competition is open until midday GMT on June 12th, the day of the paperback launch of Housewife with a Half-Life. I will draw a winner at random and announce soon after.

And just to let you know, if you’re on Goodreads, enter the draw for a free copy of Housewife with a Half-Life (ends June 11th).

There will be another super competition on the day of the launch when you can win some of the following prizes related to items and episodes in the book! Don’t forget to visit the blog and share the competitions with your friends. Thanks!

  1. My husband (never going to happen though)

    1. Maybe if you’re REALLY good! 😉

How about the Seattle Space Needle? I know it’s not “person”, but can you just see miles of beautiful tartan floating in the breeze?

    1. Wow, that’s a brilliant original thought Mary Anne! Love it!

  3. Arnold Schwarzenegger nice legs!

As a Scot I’m fairly immune to kilts but I’d just love to get the lanky Dt Sgt Hathaway from ITV’s Lewis in one … mainly because he’d look so uncomfortable (but luscious)

    1. Yes, loving the rational here!

  5. great comp! ConGrats on the PB launch !
Colin Firth for me plz 🙂

  6. The most striking man I’ve ever seen don a kilt in a movie has got to be Samuel L Jackson in The 51st State! But the man I’d like to see in a kilt is Ryan Reynolds, I can imagine him wearing one and looking a bit confused in a kind of ‘how the hell did that happen?’ kind of way : )

    1. Ah, must revisit the Samuel L. Jackson one but your mention of the name Ryan has just reminded me of my Ryan Gosling obsession, now that would be something to see!

  7. This is such a fun competition. I’d like to see Jason Statham in a kilt. Obviously he’d only be wearing it because he’s used all his regular clothes in the process of fighting with baddies (as he usually does) and he happens to find it lying around. I’d like to see if he can still look tough in a skirt.

    1. That’s Mike Myers as well! 🙂

  8. An imaginary man of many clans dressed in an original patchwork kilt. It would be different and original!

    1. Well there’s certainly an imaginary man in the book or at least a spaceman that I made up. A pan-galactic patchwork would be wonderful.

  9. I had a few men at my wedding wear kilts – very nice! Who would I like to see in a kilt? Hmmm, Harrison Ford would be fun! 🙂

    1. Harrison Ford yes. It would be surprising if he hadn’t been in one already but I can’t think of a film where he is. Hmm.

  10. You didn’t specify the gender of the kilt wearer.

    Margaret Thatcher or Peig Sayers!

    1. Quite right. I had hoped people would not be gender specific. It doesn’t have to be an animate object. Lovely choices Liam!

  11. George Clooney! In anything, anywhere, anytime. *Falls into a swoon*.

I would like to see Quark wear a kilt as an act of solidarity for all of the Ferengi females years of oppression.

  13. Great post! Housewife might have a half-life but you have full-speed wit! Will try to make it to your launch tomorrow if I can sneak out of work.

  14. Was at the Quilt Festival here in Galway at the weekend. One of the most popular stands was the “Men in Kilts Massage”. The gentlemen, in fetching Black Watch Tartan, eased the stress out of the ladies attending.

Ladies who Quilt like a man in a kilt. Some were looking for samples of the tartan! Next yeat expect to see some Braveheart Patchwork.

Could be the opening of an interesting limerick!

If AB Alison doesn’t mind me intruding on her space I will offer a Tartan Cap from our site http://www.galwaybaygifts.com to the composer of the best limerick.

    N.B. Extra points for filth!

    Sorry Alison!

    1. That sounds like an interesting quilting festival. Men in Kilts Massage, brilliant! Well there you go, a Tartan Cap for the best limerick, away you go. Anyone listening? Or have you got cloth ears?!!!

  15. I have always fantasized about seeing my husband in a kilt. His ancestors were highlanders and he’s such a big, strong, dashing sort of a man that he seems he would fit right into it. Too bad there aren’t many kilts lying around here in USA.
    Congrats on the book!

  16. sean connery true scots man

  17. I would love to see your Dad my Uncle Brian in a kilt !!! infact all our Uncles lol !!! xxx good luck wi

  18. I think I would like to see Bradley Copper in a kilt.. mind you I think I would like to see him out of his kilt even more Alison lol

    1. Cooper that is .. I got all excited just saying his name ops

  19. I have succumbed to the tweets. Who would I want to see in a kilt? Geez, I don’t know. How about Mitt Romney. Then maybe he’d hold himself down, cut of his own hair, and leave the rest of America alone.

    1. So a kilt might keep him out of trouble. That’s the general idea!

    1. Perfect!
