#fridayflash Silence

Silence

Silence, how he liked it. Twigs snapping like bones. A cry, single and sharp. Silence. Hands over his ears under the bushes in his boyhood garden. Hand over her mouth. Silence.

This is in response to my 31 word writing prompt that forms the basis of a 31 or 131 word flash fiction competition open till Sunday. To enter go here.

  1. Ouch! 31 words delivered straight to the solar plexus

  2. I don’t think I quite get it. Does he like silence so much that he is silent as someone is torturing him?

    1. The idea was that he was messed up as a kid and in some way it’s made him twisted and now he’s inflicting horror on someone else. Gave it all away there didn’t I?

  3. Ooh, Alison, this story gives me shivers. The image of the child hiding in the bush particularly. It suggests a horrific childhood and an adulthood heading for disaster. Well done on managing this is so few words.
